Dr. Lovelace Gipson II, started his General Family practice in 1974 after graduating from University of Tennessee School of Dentistry. He witnessed serious economic changes that occurred around his practices in the 80's. These areas were hit hard economically and many of the residents lost employment and in some instances hope. He and his staff started to contact former patients and began to investigate why they had stopped coming to the dentist. Many of them cited the same barriers to care. One of the biggest was transportation, understanding the importance of preventative care and loss of insurance. Many of them simply waited until they were in pain to make an appointment. He knew that his office must respond and to make a difference.
As a result, Dr. Gipson and staff started to educate, provide transportation, provide high quality dental services and family service medicaid counseling. Once the word spread..., the community responded by calling daily asking for him to pick up their children for dental appointments, visit schools, churches, daycares and to create partnerships with others trying to raise the standard of oral care for at-risk families.
At that time there was no government program designed for oral care outreach education with access to dental care for at-risk families in West Tennessee. He began to craft what is an now known as the Nellie's Kids Dental Program.

The Beginning......
The Nellie's Kids Dental Program has touched thousands of young lives.........many have grown up and now have children that are Nellie's Kids.....some have pursued careers in dentistry!

Helping parents who are busy and just need someone they can trust to work with them. Our family Buddies will pick up your children for you if you are unable to bring your children. We make sure that we report all of our findings and assure you that if a child has any dental problems we will address them.
